Classically Designed

“As a person with a long and willowy build, a lot of flexibility but little strength and lifelong posture issues, these classes have been life changing for me. I feel stronger and more connected within my body, and much more aware of how to use my core strength to help correct my posture. Taryn is an extremely knowledgeable and patient teacher. She focuses on the individual's needs rather than a "one size fits all" approach using the classical format of Pilates. She is tough yet motivating, but also sympathetic to my personal journey through Pilates. I couldn't recommend Taryn's classes more highly.”

Mission

The Classical Pilates studio incorporates a specialized training design for clients. Each session ensures that a client’s root problem of weakness or instability in the body is being explained by a rationale of core strengthening using anatomy and kinesiology. By advancing one’s movement knowledge using the classical Pilates technique, clients are improving their overall stamina, muscle strength, and growth mindset on how to move efficiently throughout one’s daily life.

Studio

The Classical Pilates studio offers in-person classes in Richmond, VA or virtually worldwide. For in-person sessions, Pilates mat and low chair classes are available. For virtual sessions, the most common classes are Pilates mat, and if the low chair equipment is accessible for a client, session modifications can be easily accommodated. Finally, all movement levels are welcomed.

Workout

Each Classical Pilates session is explained through a personally tailored “Driver Diagram” (figure 1). The diagram allows clients to understand the AIM/goal of the session. By demonstrating to the client that one or more root cause can be hindering the progress of the AIM, specific “drivers” allow for accessible changes to be made to a clients Pilates routine to attain the AIM/goal for strengthening an injury or an instability of one’s body movement through space.
